It was insanely frigid this morning hovering around, or maybe below zero. I walk out, freezing my ass off to start the Safari.
First the ignition is so cold that it's hard to turn to start. Then after cranking for 10-15 second it groans to life and knocks like nothing I've ever heard. At first I thought it was misfiring, the whole thing was shaking and my groggy self was just full of what the fuck.
It was to the point I was about to nope the hell back inside and grab the M3 keys and risk getting in trouble at school for not having a parking pass. I thought the thing was totally fucked. Then it started warming up and acted fine.
I'm so tired of winter. I'm ready to be able to drive with my sunroof open and windows down.
Have a CTS-V for actually reading my ramblings.
Oh yeah, I also saw the aftermath of a car fire this morning on the highway, the car burnt to a crisp? A '96 Impala SS.

I'm so over winter it's ridiculous, yesterday was our first "warmish" day with temps hitting 45. I'm dying to wash and detail my car it has so much crud on it I want to cry and I would've washed it yesterday if my driveway didn't have a foot of snow surrounding where I park my car.

He replaced the pump, filter, and exhaust. Then he put back into time and fixed my driver side window free of charge. Total bill = $500. Not bad for Alaska, and that was with $200 knocked off. Labor rates are insane up here.
Three days later there was a series of unfortunate events that were my fault. Right before the pump died I ordered a new Idle Air Control off Amazon. It came in while the truck was in the shop and decided now that it is running well it probably doesn't need this but lets go-ahead and replace it anyways.
After installing the IAC it quickly stumbled, popped, backfired, and burped out of the TBI and promptly shut off. Took me three days of trying to trace down what was wrong with it. The air box lid fell off the fender into the engine compartment snapping the main vacuum line leading from the lower front TBI into the EVAP canister. This caused the engine to flood like crazy burning through about 3 gallons of go-juice and fuel soaking the plugs. I was able to rectify this with some extra vacuum line I had lying around, but it still wouldn't start. At this time I did not know the plugs were fuel soaked and in all honesty never crossed my mind. I checked for spark and it was weak. So I replaced the coil and it still did not start.
By this time it has been just over a week. I am taking oil petroleum classes have a lot of homework (16 credits worth). My wife is having to drop me off when she takes our son to school, otherwise I would not have a ride. This was leaving me about 15-30 minutes of light a day to work on my truck every other day by the time I got home late in the evening.
Eventually was able to find the time to replace the spark plugs and that did the trick, but the damn thing is now stalling once it has warmed up. This leads me to believe the idle needs adjusted since it only does this when warm and at idle. It wants to stay running and has plenty of fuel pressure, but clearly stumbles when at rest.
Ugh! I am sick of the cold weather, and to make things even shittier there is no snow this year.

There's only one big difference, my knocking car is 21 years old, and that's a relatively new BMW which makes it even more concerning.
